전라남도 순천시 송광면 조계산에 있는 조계종 승보 사찰로 대한불교 조계종의 본사이다. 고려 신종대에 조계종의 창시자 보조국사 지눌이 정혜결사를 송광사로 이전하고 조계종의 본사로 삼았다. 송광사에는 보조국사 지눌을 비롯하여 16명의 국사를 모시고 있는 국사전이 국가문화재 국보로 지정되어 있다.
Located on Jogyesan Mountain in Songgwang-myeon, Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do, this Seungbo (Sangha Jewel) Temple of the Jogye Order serves as the main temple (headquarters) of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. During the reign of King Sinjong of Goryeo, Bojo Guksa Jinul, the founder of the Jogye Order, moved the Jeonghye Gyeolsa (Society for Samadhi and Precepts) to Songgwangsa and established it as the order’s central temple. The Guksajeon Hall, which enshrines portraits of 16 state preceptors including Jinul, has been designated as a National Treasure of Korea.
